Characteristics

Early stages
Rolled vernation. The leaves are broad, flat and rough. The sheath is closed and without teeth. Short ligule.

Mature plant
Vigorous plant with 60-120 cm high, erect stems. Large panicle open to all sides. Spikelets are pendent and large with 2-3 bisexual flowers.

Biology

Propagation and dispersal
Only through seeds.

Habit
Summer annual.

Importance

Occasionally as volunteers after cultivation.
