Characteristics

Cotyledons
Inverted kidney-shaped with entire leaf margins. Stalked. The surface is either smooth or has a few hairs. Length approx. 7-10 mm

True leaves
Inverted egg-shaped with sinuate to toothed leaf margins. Stalked. The surface is either smooth or has a few hairs. Length approx. 20-30 mm.

Mature plant plant
Oil-seed Rape is a vigorous plant with a 60-100 cm high, erect stem. The plant is especially known by its very bluish-green colour. The length of the petals is approx. 10-12 mm. Seed production: Up to approx. 1,500 seeds per plant.

Seed
Ball-shaped. Very finely pitted surface. Thousand grain weight approx. 5.0 g.

Propagation and dispersal
Only through seeds.

Habit
Summer and winter annual.

Importance

Oil-seed Rape is a frequent volunteer plant in both autumn- and spring-sown crops. In all crops in which it is present as a weed it is an injurious weed, which causes yield losses.
