Can be mistaken for

Anchusa arvensis, which has somewhat larger dicotyledon leaves and true leaves.

Characteristics

Cotyledons
Almost circular with entire leaf margins. Stalked. The surface is densely hairy on the leaf top side. Length approx. 4-6 mm.

True leaves
Inverted egg-shaped to oval with entire leaf margins. Stalked. Densely hairy surface. Length approx. 10-15 mm.

Mature plant
Field Forget-me-not is a small plant with a 15-40 cm high, straight stem. The plant is very rough, and the flowers are arranged in bent inflorescences. The cross section of the flower is approx. 3-4 mm. Seed production: Up to approx. 700 seeds per plant.

Seed
Almond-shaped to compressed drop-shaped with a sharp peripheral suture. The surface is smooth and very shiny. Thousand grain weight approx. 0.3 g.

Biology

Propagation and dispersal
Only through seeds.

Habit
Summer and winter annual.

Importance

The species is frequently found in both autumn- and spring-sown crops throughout Denmark. In cereal crops and Oil-seed Rape the plant usually has no influence on yield. However, it can be quite troublesome in open crops.
