Can be mistaken for

Corn Marigold, which has blue-green true leaves.
Mugwort, which only has small cuts in the 2 first true leaves.
Pineapple-weed, of which the first 2 true leaves have maximum 2 incisions.
Scentless Mayweed, which has smooth true leaves.

Characteristics

Cotyledons
Oval to circular with entire leaf margins. Unstalked. Smooth surface. Length approx. 3-6 mm.

True leaves
Oval to inverted egg-shaped outline, with many deep incisions and partings. Unstalked. Surface sparsely hairy. Length approx. 10-15 mm.

Mature plant
Corn chamomile is a medium-sized plant with 10-50 cm high, erect, partly creeping stems. The species resembles Scentless Mayweed very much, but Corn Chamomole has hairy true leaves whereas Mayweed has smooth leaves. The diameter of the flower is approx. 15-30 mm. Seed production: Up to approx. 4,000 seeds per plant.

Seed
Two types of seeds: Ray seed and disc seed. Ray seed: Oblong and often slightly curved with rounded 4-5-sided cross section. The surface has 10 rounded, somewhat rough longitudinal ribs. Thousand grain weight approx. 1.2 g. Disc seed: As the ray seed, but smaller and with less conspicuous ribs. Thousand grain weight approx. 0.5 g.

Biology

Propagation and dispersal
Mainly through seeds.

Habit
Summer and winter annual.

Importance

The species is sometimes found in both autumn- and spring-sown crops throughout Denmark. In all crops in which the plant is found it can result in a yield loss, even at relatively small densities. In clover meadows the plant is a problem because it is difficult to separate the seeds.
